BounceU & Mama's Little Helper Mommy-Blogger event!

Today I attended my first blogger/networking event that was hosted by BounceU Horsham, PA and Mama's Little Helper.  As a new blogger I don't know other bloggers but it was very nice to meet and talk with others about something that I enjoy doing.  In my social circle I never talk about it.  I always worry that people will think it is silly.  I enjoy doing it and more importantly, I do it for me.   Admittedly, I am happy when other people benefit from it and say "thanks".
The gathering was open to bloggers, their kids and a guest with their children.  I invited a friend of mine and her two children.  Our kids enjoyed the two massive rooms filled with gigantic bouncers, slides, climbers, ect.  There are a lot of things to do for all ages.  My guest and I brought two toddlers (2) and a pre-schooler (4) and they found something age appropriate to do.  There were a few older kids but I would say the appropriate age-range would be 3-8 years old (but not limited to those ages, my 2 year old had a great time).  We were surprised with costumed characters, Spider-Man, Batman, and Ariel for the girls.  The kids LOVED it!

My experience with the employees at this location has always been extraordinary, today was no exception.  The employees really seem to enjoy their jobs and it reflects on the kids and their attitudes towards them.  Here is a photo of one of the employees playing with my son, unprompted.

After the kids played the private party rooms were filled with treats for the kids and the parents.  Bloggers mingled & connected while the kids got their faces painted and waited their turn for balloon animals and flowers.  Overall we had a REALLY great time.  The kids were happy and exhausted, a sure sign of a good time!

The BEST part of it all, each of the "bloggers" were given a "Bounce Pass" good for 5 visits to give away to one of our lucky readers!  This is not the official contest, yet!  But, I will be posting a contest soon, so, keep your eyes on my posts!

Personal Blog #1

Yesterday was mine and my husband's 14th wedding anniversary.

The hubby and I decided to go into Philly and eat in "Olde City" which is the historic (and trendy) part of Philadelphia.  We walked around a little and ran into Franklin Fountain and decided to eat dessert first!  It is called Mt Vesuvius and we substituted Coconut ice cream instead of Vanilla or Chocolate.  It was delicious.  Apparently, The Franklin Fountain is a historical ice cream parlor which uses all freshly made ingredients in an old time soda fountain and ice cream parlor.  It was definitely worth the trip.  The ice cream was rich and creamy, probably one of the best ice cream's I've ever eaten.  The hot fudge was thick and rich.  They added a sprinkle of malt on top and while my husband didn't find it necessary, I found that it added a nice texture to the sundae.

After dessert we decided to eat at Q BBQ & Tequila and had a great (and filling) dinner.  We shared a combo platter of brisket/pulled pork and a 1/2 rack of ribs.  Both were great, but my favorite was the ribs!

We decided to go to the BenFM Birthday Bash at Cavanaugh's Riverdeck because we had previously won tickets to the private event.  The guests that were performing were Freedom Williams from C&C Music Factory and Rob Base.  We saw a little of both performers and WOW it brought back some memories of the 80's. We enjoyed our free drinks, free photo booth pictures and promotional swag from Xfinity.  We decided after about an hour to hit the road and go to Parx Casino and try our luck.

The last time we went to Parx we won $17 combined but this time we were not so lucky.  We left with our pockets a little bit lighter than we arrived.  After a very eventful evening we decided to go home and spend the last few minutes of our anniversary at home, relaxing.  I suppose that could be interpreted as a sign of old age, but, I like to think of it as being nice to the babysitter (my mom) and letting her get home at a decent time.

Some Links to Book Clubs and Free (or cheap) Movies

(Thanks to Lynne for sending me this, which she got in an email)

Free & Cheap Movie Programs

It’s worth mentioning that I found a ton of small regional movie chains offering similar promotions as the ones below. If you have a small chain in town, you might want to call and inquire if they have any specials this summer.

AMC Entertainment: Tickets for Tuesday movies at 10am are only $1.

Carmike Cinemas: Again, tickets for Tuesday movies at 10am are only $1. It runs through August 10 and popcorn & drinks are also $1 to boot.

Cinemark Theatres: For $5, you can buy 10 movie tickets that can be used once per week on weekday mornings. Now someone just needs to mention that spelling theaters as theatres looks idiotic.

National Amusements: From July 7 to Aug. 11, kids and their parents can see a free movie every Wednesday at 10am. However, you have to bring a “book report” with you. What in the world is up with all of these free movie events occurring at 10am?

Regal Cinemas: Free movies will be shown at 10am every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Rave Theaters: There will be free admission to G or PG rated movies every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10am.

Free Reading Programs

Barnes & Noble: Children in grades 1-6 can read eight books through Sept. 7 and then get one free. They have a Summer Reading Journal to help keep track of your child’s books and select which one they’ll get for free.

Borders: Children 12 and under get a free book when they read at least 10 books by Aug. 26.

Half Price Books: They want to Feed Your Brain (*WARNING!* Potential Zombie Alert) between now and July 31. Kids ages 14 and under can earn a $3 Half Price Books shopping card for each week they read at least 15 minutes per day. They have a reading log to help keep track.

H-E-Buddy.com: A site I’ve never heard about is offering a “cool prize” for reading 10 books by Oct. 1. They have a form you can fill out that also has a slot for a t-shirt size, so I’m guessing that might be the prize.

Pizza Hut: Any child in grades K-6 who reads five books between June 15 and Aug. 15 can enter to win the Summer Break Reading Challenge. Prizes include swim gear, gift cards, and more.

Pottery Barn: They hold a Book Club every Tuesday from 11-11:30am. If your child attends five events, they get a “special gift.”

TD Bank: If any child under 18 reads 10 books between May 3 and Sept. 30
